Essential Skills for an Industry Ready Engineer

India is home to 1.27 billion people. More than half of the population is under the age of 25, and, with a projected average age of 29 years, India will be one of the world’s youngest countries by 2020.
The system, however, is pressed by widespread quality challenges; the vast majority of graduates - as many as 75% by some estimates - are not considered employable

These findings are echoed by a number of similar studies over the last two to three years. The estimates may vary, in terms of the percentage of employable graduates in particular, but the various reports share an inescapable conclusion:

Most of the graduates from Indian education are not receiving an education that sufficiently prepares them for the demands and opportunities of the country’s rapidly changing economy.

"There has not been any change in the quality of students either for the better or worse. The same hiring and selection process is applied for all engineering colleges and the IIT students do not need any lesser time for training compared to a non-IITian and after training productivity is same as others," says Manjunath SR, senior director, human resources, NetApp India,

Mechanical Enginnering is one of the branches which faces maximum difficulties for placement. Being one of the top branches of the country and having a great history it’s unfortunate to see how it is valued now. There is a huge difference between the skill set required by the industry and what the student learns at the colleges.

  1.  Effective communication skills -
With an increase in thedocumentation and instructions that engineers use in the workplace, clear and concise communication is a requirement.
  2. Interpersonal skills -
You need to know how to effectively work as part of a team and work with customers to identify needs and provide solutions
  3. Organizational skills -
Being able to prioritize tasks, manage your time effectively and resource planning are key skills for engineers.
  4. Enthusiasm and commitment -
Learning new skills is part of every engineer's role, so you need to be adept at assimilating a lot of new information.
  5.  Scientific understanding
     Understand scientific theories,
Break a project down into smaller parts
  6. Teamwork skills

Your ability to work as both a part and a leader. A good engineer is also able to stand back and respect the desires and needs of their colleagues when performing a team member role.
  7. An attention to detail

Many engineering tasks require a very high level of intricacy, and an attention to detail in these tasks is essential to their completion.
Approaching every task with the same level of attention to detail will make you stand out as a conscientious worker and perfectionist, and will guard you against mistake.
  8. Problem solving

The ability to be adaptable to a range of problems is a key trait of a good engineer. Adaptation and problem solving must be carried out with mathematical, technical and scientific considerations in mind, and taken in a calm and reasoned manner.
  9. will to innovate and progress
Combine expertise in a variety of skills with a creative flair and a new approach to solve problems, drive change and create opportunities.
Keeping abreast of new technologies and innovations, seeking knowledge and finding new ways to approach difficult tasks will put you in the best position to innovate
  10. TECHNICAL COMPETENCE

Technical proficiency; the ability to understand and utilize the technology which presents itself throughout the role, whilst having a wide range of technical competencies allows you to transcend boundaries and widen your influence.

BOOKSBEKA.COM,THE BEGINNING

For Attractive lips, speak words of kindness.
For lovely eyes, seek out the good in people.

For a slim figure, share your food with the hungry.

For beautiful hair, let a child run their fingers through it once a day.

For poise, walk with the knowledge that you never walk alone.

People, more than things, have to be restored, renewed, revived, reclaimed, and redeemed. Remember, if you ever need a helping hand, you will find one at the end of each of your arms.

As you grow older, you will discover that you have two hands, one for helping yourself and the other for helping others

From fancy cars and expensive attire to exotic vacations, there are different ways in which one can spend their hard earned money. But what happens if you donate some of that? (#foodforthought). As the above quote states, help others while you can and you shall receive it back. RAMOSE is one such social service organisation whose main principle is “to branch”.  Those who witness our giving are reminded that we are all interdependent on one another for our care and well-being. That reminder can have a viral effect and motivate countless others to follow and help us branch out.
We have conducted more than 90 service activities over a span of 3 years. The highlights are “call the corporator”, “dressing the divine”, “help to cook”, and “ramose and angels”. The biggest of our events is “BOOKS BARO ANDOLAN”. RAMOSE took up the initiative to distribute academic books to needy students. Thus to promote the importance of reading and to provide academic books to students who are growing up in homes in which there are few, if any ,academy related books. One gives the gift of literacy when they donate used books to charity. Donating books helps give the less fortunate access to a larger world through the wonders of reading.
We donated over 8000 books to the rural students and visited 10 districts in Karnataka. Each visit costs us approximately Rs.10,000. Out of the 8000 books, 1500 of them were collected last year. But as we know, no world is without its problems, we were able to donate only 500 of them in a district. This is when it hit us that we need a reliable source of fund. Money has never been an issue until now. All the activities conducted have been run from our allowances. But due to large number of events conducted every year, this petty cash could no longer suffice. Furthermore, the members of our team have a strong sense of passion for entrepreneurship. The rise and growing buzz of entrepreneurship has further boosted us to form a company.
Thus we set up a company by merging our ideas of service and our passion for entrepreneurship, and named it “BOOKSBEKA.COM”. The name itself is intriguing. The name of the company is derived from the kannada word “beka” which means need.
The 3 years of service journey of RAMOSE was with books. This made us realise the need for good books everywhere. Reading is an essential life skill. Broad reading habits are often a defining character of our greatest leaders. This is because reading improves emotional intelligence, communication, and even reduces stress. All the more need for good books. Books play an important role in our life. Books are our friends in a real sense. They demand nothing from us. They give us plenty of joy. We also learn a lot from them. They take us into a different world of imagination. Good books improve our standard of living.
